Have you ever read the book of Acts and asked the question, “Why not us Lord”? Why can’t the Church in my city experience your Kingdom coming in power like these early believers did?” I believe that we can. Sometimes, if you want to discover why something is the way it is, you have to go to the root. Often the foundation of yesterday that today and the future is being built upon is faulty. It’s a case of cause and effect. The root determines the fruit.
So, what foundation was the early Church in the book of Acts building upon? They had just come out of the upper room experience with each other that was based on deep relationships of interdependence on one another. Acts 1:14 tells us that while they were in the upper room, “They all met together continually for prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.” Their foundation for power was continual, desperate prayer.
